Multicultural Greek Council
The Multicultural Greek Council is the umbrella organization that governs the Historically African-American, Latino and Latina, and Asian Greek letter organizations at the University of Pennsylvania. The council serves as the governing body of those organizations whose sole purpose is to promote community service, social activities, co-sponsoring of educational and cultural forums, and an overall awareness through its involvement in the Penn and Philadelphia communities. The MGC is currently led by
President: Jocelyn Chandler (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.); Vice-President: Omari Ramirez (Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.); Recording Secretary: Demetria Smith (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.); Corresponding Secretary: Danielle Branch (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.); Treasurer: Shayla Alleyne (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.); and Parlimentarian: Brittany MIddlebrooks (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.).
Intake
Traditionally, all MGC fraternities and sororities, unlike the member chapters of IFC and Panhellenic, have their own individualized membership recruitment process. Pledging was discontinued nationally for all Historically African-American organizations many years ago, giving way to the Intake process. Generally, the MGC Intake process occurs during the Spring semester; however, some organizations will intake during the fall semester.
